I am sometimes asked why I wrote The Dalai Lama’s Cat. With the second book in the series, The Art of Purring, to be released in just over a month’s time, I thought perhaps it’s time I explained myself.

I’ve read a lot of nonfiction/dharma/Buddhist books, but I really loved the small scenarios you created that distill the gist of Buddhist principles into practical examples. I love that I can loan this book to those interested in the basics, to invite them into the dharma!

Thank you for writing the series. LOVE these books. Makes the lessons so simple and charming. We are devoting a full day at our middle/high school to following our passion, and I’m using a quotation from The Art of Purring to explain this to students!

I’m 2/3 of the way through the first book & finding it more is engrossing as I go. You have the gift of making the lessons easy to understand while not losing their essence. I started reading because of the cat (who is adorable) but I’m also finding the lessons fascinating. Looking forward to hunting up The Art of Purring.

I just ordered your book through the local little book store. I have a cat named The Dalai Lama. He appeared in my front yard, self assured, beautiful, large penetrating blue eyes and he purrs all the time. I call it “going to his zen place” I heard my neighbors calling him “fat Cat”–which he is not–he is simply majestically built. It seemed logical to me to call him by his Holinesses official name. I discovered two things about this cat–he was abandoned by someone who moved away and he had a huge cancerous tumor on his right hind leg, caused by a vaccination. He is now cancer free, and lives life happily on 3 legs. And purrs all the time, blesses the lives of many in the neighborhood with his beautiful presence. Can’t wait to get my copy of your book–Actually I ordered two copies–one as a gift.

I have just finished the Dalai Lama’s Cat – what a beautiful book, and what a marvellous way of introducing people to the teachings of Buddhism. I never wanted the book to end, so you can imagine how delighted I am to know that I can now read ‘ The Art of Purring’

Dear David: I am now reading the fourth book in Dalai Lama’s Cat series. I have loved all of these books and when I am reading them I find myself smiling with happiness. They have been a particular boon during this time of the Covid pandemic, and I have recommended them to many friends, Buddhist practitioners and many who are not. What I love is the voice of HHC/Rinpoche/Little Snow Lion, which you have so beautifully captured, and which allows you to include basic Buddhist principles, teachings, truths IN PLAIN ENGLISH. Thank you so much for this gift that you have given to all of your readers and fans.
